Removing valve shims NC30
Hello Folks
Found this great forum a few weeks back
I picked up a non runner a few weeks ago been parked up for 7 years . I’ve got it starting :) Got to change some o rings in the carbs and while I have them off I decided to check the valve clearances .
With help from the how to guide on for checking Valve Clearances , I’ve gone through mine . 1 and 3 are within tolerances, 2 and 4 have zero gap .
So not wanting to do any damage , how exactly do I remove the valve shims ?
Thanks

Push the rocker sideways against the spring and while holding it there simply pick the shim out with one of those telescopic `magnet on a stick` type tools.

Thanks RickOliver,
That’s what I read and thought from the “How to” , I just didn’t want to force anything without asking the question .
I’ve got a magnetic stick to pick them out , cheers
So I’d be write then saying that I need to get a shim back in there that has clearance so I can find a gap and then work out final sizes I need .
Thanks

Make sure you put the cam lobes in the right place before trying to move the rocker

Good advice already in this thread.
I;d suggest following the service manual - to be downloaded from the documents section (top right /documents )
