At the risk of sounding like a party pooper, I suggest you also consider sourcing a good running engine as replacement and keep the blown engine as spare for parts etc. This may turn out to be the most cost effective approach compared to rebuilding one with a failed big end.

Give RB Racing in Sydney a call (02) 9524 3177, they know 400's inside out. I bought my last set of OEM crank shells from them, but they don't have the full range of sizes, they're just not available anymore. But have a chat with them and let them know what you're after, they'll be able to help you.

Otherwise check out CMSNL.com for part numbers and then start googling. I rebuilt my NC35 race bike engine last Christmas so I have all the part numbers if that would help you, let me know and I can email you the spreadsheet?

Cheers, Josh

No worries, good luck with the rebuild. Don't hesitate to ask any questions.

Can you get the journal built back up to normal size by metal spraying? More an industrial process than a vehicles one but there's no reason it's not as good as the original journal.
