Is my new chain running right?

Chaps,

New sprockets and chain curtosy of Mr O.
I've done all back up and checked tension, but this doesn't look right/ smooth to me (see video).
Chain is brand new/ not run in and bike is on stands if that makes any difference.

The darker link whizzing round is the compression link.

I've also double checked the compression link width is ok - not too tight/ loose.


Worrying unnecessary??
My first chain and sprocket change so please forgive if totally daft question.

Can be easy to over-tightened the chain. Personally prefer to run a chain a little loose, does no harm. How is the tension when sitting on the bike.

Its at the book recommended 25mm on stands, I'll double check it when it's down. Could this cause the uneven running??

A question regarding your 25mm measurement, this is 25mm up/down and not simply the chain set to measure 25mm below the swing arm?

~25mm from resting pushed up and ~25mm from resting pushed down, so approx 50mm of movement from lowest to highest point (measured approx halfway between the sprockets).

My reading of the spec, 15-25mm, is total up plus down. However as I said earlier I prefer to set/check the movement with the rear suspension loaded and unloaded. Your video appears to indicate little chain movement as it rotates, would expect a bigger loop top/bottom as the chain runs around the sprocket with a 50mm movement from lowest to highest points.

I always set the chain slack to 25mm with me and gear on the bike.. never had any problems doing it that way. think yours is too tight.

Has the 30 not got a rubber slider for the chain going over the swing arm, if so maybe its out of line? While its not hard doing the chain perhaps one of those chain monkeys on ebay might help?

I run around 24mm slack on the stand, if you run the bike without the suspension loaded it will look erratic and make all types of sounds. Make sure you grease the front sprocket/spline with moly grease
