Rear hub schmoo

Post by richhemmings » Mon Jul 10, 2017 9:34 pm

Hi chaps,

Forgive the rookie question, but I've had my wheels off to be repowdered and noticed a lot of grease on the rear hub, and wheel carrier.

Question the first...
Does this need to be refreshed (I've not done in 5000km/ 6years and suspect this is the factory issued gunk)

Question the second...
I would say whoever schmoo'ed it up before me was very liberal... Right? Wrong?

Final question...
If I need to regressed, will normal lithium based grease do, or do I need high temp stuff??

Thanks as always!

Looks like copper grease? Just to stop the wheel corroding and sticking on.

Leave it alone

Cheers

Looks like the bike's PO suffered from "stuck rear wheel" syndrome and didn't want it happening again!
