Nc24 reg/rec help

Post by royster81 » Thu Aug 30, 2012 9:48 pm

A mate rang me tonight to ask is there another reg/rec from a different model suitable to fit the nc24 ?

The bike in question keeps running the battery down so he's going to replace the R/R to rule it out.

Before he hands over any money why not do some basic checks to identify the source of the problem.

Measure the battery voltage with the engine running, check the condition of all the connections between the Stator and the rect/reg and measure the resistance of the three yellow stator wires with the rect/reg disconnected.

R6 5SL (03-05) :peace: That's what I fitted to my 24.

Don't bother buying second hand though. I've replaced the reg/rec on my R6 three times now in the last two years. First two times were second hand units that failed within weeks. I ended up getting an OE one trade for not much more, and cheaper than a new non-branded one.
Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.

Ive had a 1999 R6 reg/rec on my NC24 for 3 years now.

Providing the battery is in good condition and your connections are solid you shouldnt really have many problems.

And do the R6 regs plug straight in?

Youll need a new plug, there about 5gbp for a decent plug with new terminals. (the old ones might be pretty manky by now anyway)

plug off and solder on the new one and away you go.

I had a second hand R6 reg on my nc30 for a couple a years even got one on me FZR now aswell. If you dont wanna buy a new plug you can just use spade connectors, but dont use the cheap crimp ones, use good solder on ones.

Cheers
Ian

Yep spades are also an option, one I used before I found you can buy the connector block and crimps separartly.

Do not crimp the wires though, solder them to ensure a good connection.

Hi, I know this is an old thread but I'm looking to replace my old rectifier on my nc24 with the r6 one, please can anyone explain how to wire it up as my nc24 rectifier has 2 plugs coming off of it, 3 yellow wires which go to stator and another plug that plugs in. Thanks
