1989 NC30 nut and bolt build

Post by pixelevolved » Mon Jun 01, 2020 6:34 am

Hi from NZ everyone, have joined the forum and there are lots of sweet sweet builds... but if it is one thing I know about forums is that there can always be more builds!
So we have a 1989 NC30, tired, and in need of attention... I will let the first image dump bring everyone up to speed, but has been slowly ticking away over the Covid Lock Down.

Delivery - Looking alright... sketchy paint if you look close.
Image

Start of strip.
Image

Might be saveable.
Image

Carbs out.
Image

Engine Out.
Image

Carbs were fine and all... but don't look the part.
Image

Few years of grime.
Image

Ready for blasting.
Image

Much better.
Image

Carbs reassembled.
Image

Exhaust at face value was bad, but hidden under there was some nice stainless.
Image

Exhaust work in progress.
Image

Turned out ok.
Image

Brackets ready for plating.
Image

Time for engine tidy up.
Image

Stripped and etch primed cases. Ready for paint.
Image

Going for something a little different.
Image

Engine mock up with cases... Waiting on titanium bolts.
Image

Frame was in average shape... Time to sand off all the anodise.
Image

Took hours!
Image

Hand brushed with some heavy grit and dulled with green scour pad. Ready for 2K satin clear.
Image

Not the best pic, but really happy with the frame.
Image

Aftermarket radiators were fine so just tidy them up.
Image

Straighten fin by fin.
Image

Working on rebuilding all the Japanese stickers.
Image

So coming along steadily... waiting on delivery of parts just takes a bit of time at the moment.
Will update accordingly :)

Don't what you're doing wrong but none of your pics have appeared. Shame. These rebuilds make interesting viewing so maybe you could give it another go!

Nice to see NC30's in New Zealand being restored. We don't have enough of them left!

Sorry everyone I have fixed the original post (new to the posting format but I will get there).
And here is an update... it has been a bit slow moving with global pandemics and all, but it is ticking along. Waiting on bunch of plating at moment so doing what bits and pieces I can tick off along they way.

Carbs all back together.
Image

Restored airbox.
Image

Polish exhaust (I know it won't stay like that but still pretty nice for some old pipes).
Image

Had to crash a 'busa just for the tip ;)
Image

Replacing all bolts and screws with either stainless or titanium.
Image

One wiring gremlin that needs to be rectified (pun intended).
Image

Some nice new Honda bits are always nice.
Image

Restored under tray/cover.
Image

Starter before...
Image

...and after.

That is a fab restoration you're doing there! I'm impressed. Now explain in detail please how you tarted up the exhaust. I'd like to know what you did to the under tray to make it look like that. Also, that sheet of warning labels looks pretty good. How have you done it? Are those stickers something you could reproduce and sell to other forum members?
