Parts needed for leaking NC35 fork rebuild

Post by bjhanss » Sat Apr 11, 2020 5:54 pm

Hello.

Which parts have to be replaced to solve what seems to be a simple fork oil leak ?
The oil seal, oil ring stop and dust seal are given,( and can be purchased from CMS as a set ) but are there any more parts that need to be changed when the fork is dismantled ?

Regards from Norway
Bjoern

So if you have an oil leak, the seal is the obvious culprit, but what you need to do is carefully check the chrome tube in the travel area for any damage, stone chips, pitting, or dead flies etc anything that is sharp that can damage a rubber seal as it passes over, that will most likely be your reason for the oil leak, so check that carefully and severe damage will require a re chrome or new stanchion worth noting before disassembly as you can have the parts ready to go, if not too bad you can smooth any high spots with a bit of 400 grit emery paper,

Also worth noting you have bushes in the upper and lower part of the leg these will not cause the oil leak but there about £30 for a set for both legs so well worth keeping in even if you don't need to replace them it's better to have them and not need them than have to wait for them to turn up just keep them in stock, also there is a copper washer on the 6mm Allen bolt that holds the cartridge in, you can usually get a kit that has everything in that you need

No idea what the quality is like as I've never used them but you get the idea
