nc35 race bike weight loss

Post by bozz1974 » Sat May 25, 2019 6:25 pm

As per the title, I am after some ways to lose weight from my race bike, as a post race weight in at donington last weekend, I discovered the wet weight of my bike, its 164kg, the zxr400 in front of me was 146kg.

I already have a lightweight subframe fitted and SES bars and footrests. the bike also run a race spec loom, scitsu tacko and temp gauges, and a light dash of titanium bolts, so I guess I have already done the easy stuff.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks Dave

Hi,

I was racing at donington also and was weighed, I came in at 156kg with about 3ltrs fuel in the bike. Mine hasn't really been on a crash diet or anything so im surprised its 8kg heavier than yours,

I run the following -

A chopped std subframe
Race loom
Lightweight battery (four dewalt cells soldered together)
Vfr750 rear wheel (Heavy from what i remeber when someone weighed the variuos options)
520 chain

The VFR/RVF's will always be a bot lardy compared to the zxr's if for no other reason than they are a V4 with 2 heads 4 cams etc. I do run with tyga alloy yokes and triumph 675 front end which may help a little but not loads i would think? (i doubt 8kg)

are you running total loss?

What exhaust are you running? The standard exhaust system weighs significantly more than a Tyga stainless system for instance.

Thats a point, i should have also said i run a full sprung micron system, so as Ronin says if you are using std or only a half system that will also account for some of the difference between our bikes

I will do a full spec,
total loss
scitsu tacko and temp gauges
race loom
half mph system with twin carbon cans
ram air
Maxton front forks
Penske rear shock
front radial master cylinder
ses aluminium bars and rear sets
Rick oliver light weight rear sub frame
tuned engine unsure of the output.
fibre glass fairings.
520 chain conversion.

Think that's it, tbh I could lose the weight and probably still not be much faster, there is loads more to come from me before the bike, I was 15s a lap slower than the quickest bikes, 9s of which was from the start line round to between mcleans and coppice.

Everyone i know with a total loss system always seems to end up either finishing early or running out of sparks just when you dont want to.
It seems a PITA for a couple of kilos tops.
Ricks Gene kit may be an option.

If only you could find a nice uber rare set of 5 spoke Dymags for a fair price
