Vfr 400 nc 30 fuel tap hoses

Post by Jackdp81 » Fri Nov 02, 2018 9:23 am

Hi all, just bought a 92 vfr 400 nc30. Busy with a restoration. I have a question, i took the tank off, and on the fuel tap the little hose wasnt connected to anything. Just the main hose to the carb. When i turn my fuel tap to on and reserve fuel comes out of the main hose but nothing from the little hose. Is it supposed to be connected to something, and is fuel suppose to come out of it?

Many thanks for any advice,

Regards

Jack

Hi, welcome aboard.
It seems that your fuel tap has been modded and your NC no longer needs the little hose.
When connected to the rear right cylinder, the little hose was used to open a diaphram (spelling?) inside the tap by means of a vaccum created by the engine to allow fuel to travel. No fuel is suppose to come out of the small hose.
When that tap mod has been done, it is recommended to close the tap every time you park the bike; this is to prevent fuel overflowing into the engine.

Have a look at the documents section: http://www.400greybike.com/docs.htm
When the mind is relaxed, the body will go faster! 8-)

Thank you for that guys, just took the carbs off and saw fuel lying on top of the valves in one cylinder, getting it out with a syringe now...

You could just remove the spark plugs and crank the engine. Place a rag over the plug holes to catch the fuel as it is ejected from the cylinders.

For the next person that happens to read this thread: Once you've had fuel leaking into the cylinder(s) in this fashion, you also likely have fuel leaking past the piston rings into your oil. Fix the problem one way or another and change the oil.
