help for nc30 forks alternative.

Post by Shabba18 » Tue Jul 03, 2018 10:13 am

Hi Guys,
Thought I was being clever using vfr750 forks for nc30 pre 96 project but they are too long.
Struggling to find set of nc30 forks here in NZ.
cbr400 forks are available and they are 41mm diameter same as vfr but are they a similar length?
Any help appreciated.

Welcome :)

I've seen CBR600 forks used too - still a bit long but doable and have shit sliding caliper mounts

What's up with your current forks?

Cbr400 nc23 are way too long 741mm compared to nc30 690, cbr400 nc29 is closer at 710mm but still longer

Hi guys
Didn’t have any forks when I started with nc30 frame hence the question.
Nc29 looks like the answer can drop through yokes for right length, thanks for the help.

found this on a google serach, plenty to go on, might need brakes / wheels and stuff if you get creative.. unfortuantly no measurements but can always ask people if you find something local... beware of spring rates in non vfr forks (somethign similar weighted should be a good start) as well as any calipers / weels / axles / discs etc.

It`s not just the overall fork length that you need to consider - the length of the sliders comes into it as well. A lot of 41mm Showas have a longer slider which will clout the bottom yoke under braking if fitted to the NC30. Early Firestorm (VTR1000F) forks will work OK - there`s a lot of stanchion sticking through the top yoke but the slider length is right and they use decent 4-pot calipers (same as the NC35 units) and take the original NC30 wheel and discs - pm me direct if you want pictures - ricknc30@gmail.com
