It does feel silly looking at the sprocket as the tooth count is facing the inside(right). I am looking at Renthal sprockets.

As I say it really can't be too critical but the stepped side should face inwards with the flat/plain side facing out (left).
This is my own new Renthal rear sprocket fitted
