from the pics fairing looks aftermarket the rest looks a bit grubby front discs scored and worn the rust on pipes is mainly tarnish but chances are the mid joins at the clamps below are mild steel and probably rotten.
If its same bike then its well overpriced for what it is id say half of sellers asking price as a project if its local to you ?

Thanks no not local I live in Liverpool, there is another nice looking one in Liverpool that the guy has done up as a project but has no history on at all :-( how much do you think it would cost for a new exhaust?

Most of these bikes have bits of service history missing 20+ years old its more about condition and if seller can back up work done with receipts for parts etc and knows his stuff about them then thats a safer buy .
theres a buyers guide elswhere on the forum do your research or if your unsure someone from here might go have a look at it on your behalf .

Thanks I'll have another look at the buyers guide. The guy near me said he got it as an engine and frame with the rest as a box of bits looks like he has done a bit to it it is on eBay at the minute he wants £1850. The guy in Scotland said he may bring the bike to Glasgow in a van for me to cut down on travel time

That looks a better prospect for the price guys put a fair bit of time and money into it if you could live with the chinese fairings and tank cover meantime and source some used oem panels not easy these days and at a premium  and guy maybe negotiable on price a little bit of setting up carbs and finishing could make a good usable bike.
