RVF400 tuneup/service
Hi Guys,
I have an RVF400 - 1996 - and I am wondering is there anywhere specialist I can send the bike to get a tuneup/service etc to get it into tip top condition?
She isn't running 100% and i'm not sure if its the carbs need cleaned or electrical (coils perhaps). Id do it myself but I work away a lot, so is there anyone the forum would recommend?
Cheers,
Simon

Avoid main dealers and also any independant that doesn't get enthusiastic about the idea of working on a NC, they most likely wont have a clue what their doing and will charge you the earth for nothing. Theres a few specialists up and down the country so you might wanna say where you are, failing that a local forum member may take it on. Most are more knowledgeable on these bikes than most garages your find.

If your in Australia then rb racing in Sydney do a brilliant job, and i think there's another mob in Melbourne that's pretty good too.
If you do decide to start tuning yourself be careful not to make too many drastic changes as these bikes may not like it. It's worthwhile learning how to use a volt meter and how to measure the various parts of the bike and maybe even learning how to sync the carbs just for basic maintenance.

Re: RVF400 tuneup/service
Hi Guys.
Im in Aberdeenshire in Scotland. Im not averse to sending it away on transport to get it done.
Yeah, main dealers, I did ask before one year about a service, and their eyes glazed over....
I think the carbs need cleaned, I keep it in a bike bag over winter. Drain the fuel etc but I think maybe there was some left or whatever. It doesn't run so well, idles well, but splutters at revs. Got through an MoT like that tho
Havent had the time (or inclination ) to strip it apart. It'd be fine if I could keep it in the living room tho

Re: RVF400 tuneup/service
Hi Simon, there's a company called gfperformance.co.uk near Oxford that look like they specialise 400s. I've spoken to them a few times about tuning my RVF but not used them for any work yet. It's far from you, but might be worth it for a good tune up and run on a dyno.
