Current price for a 1994 RVF400

Post by dorkshoei » Tue Jan 15, 2019 12:26 am

Hi.

I was born in the UK but have lived in the USA for the last 20 years. I still have family/friends in the UK and come home 3/4 times a year.

Right now I have an Aprilia RS250 track bike and I'd like to get a RVF400 for track use. I just don't trust the RS250

Curious what I should expect to pay for a 1994 model year bike (it needs to be 21 years or older for easy import into US). I'd love to pick up something mechanically sound but with damaged plastics as I'd prefer to get a set of race glass.

I looked into importing one from Japan but the prices are crazy high. This combined with not speaking the language and not knowing anyone in the country makes it a dicey proposition.

The June 2011 buyers guide (http://www.400greybike.com/nc30.htm) says 1000-4000 quid but I'm not seeing much at this price.

Tony

Very few will sell at under 2000 GBP & in the main will 'have' issues'.
2500-3500 can get you a reasonably decent model.
mint low milage up to 6000.

Look up Drew Mori-man Jonsen and the 'Unobtanium' group on facebook, he specialises in buying and exporting Japanese market bikes. He can take a while though.

That’s an understatement, be prepared to wait a few years if buying via Drew, if you get your stuff at all

I don't think there's a risk of not getting your stuff but yes,be prepared to wait from a few months to more than a year.

Thanks for the replies guys. I emailed the guy. I'm curious on Japanese pricing as I'm seeing nothing on goobike.com (Japanese site for used bikes) under 400,000 yen (US$3600).

There are three bikes on goobike for under 500,000 yen ($4600) but 41,000km to 55,000km. Most are clustered in the 550,000 - 750,000 yen range ($5000-$7000).

So "2500-3500" pounds ($3200-4500) "for a reasonably decent model" isn't bad. I'm not in any rush. If I wait until Jan 2020, then I can consider 1995 bikes as well as 1994 ones.

For the above, what kind of kllometerage are we talking for the 2500-3500?

Looking at the various bike trading sites everything I'm seeing is from dealers and more like 5000-6000.

Any tips on where to be searching for private party sales?

I did get (an interesting and helpful) reply back from Drew (unobtanium).

15-30,000 KM

The last bike I bought Sep 18 for 2500 had 18,000 km - fairly unused since 2006 - 500km only - the tyres are date coded 2002 - lol - Brand new original fairings.

The bike before that was 1700, 21000 KM - Original fairings but wrong colour... The Blue one...

Thanks for this info. Your sig shows you have three. Is the third the one pictured with the yellow "RVF" lettering? The yellow is the 1996/later RT version IIRC.

There is this one on eBay right now: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/123604429640 Seller said it didn't sell last year at 4500 and he's looking for 3500.

Bodywork looks to be http://tyga-performance.com/product_inf ... ts_id=1849 Not sure if this is a good/bad thing.

it's a 96 so it doesn't help me (I need a 94, 95 if I wait until 2020)
